Huskies Fall to Michigan State in Wrestling

BLOOMSBURG—The Bloomsburg University wrestling team fell to Michigan State University on Saturday afternoon, 31-12, at the Nelson Field House, in a non-conference matchup.

The Huskies dropped the first six bouts of the day, but finished strong winning three of the final four matches. At 184 lbs Kyle Murphy (Bridgewater, NJ/Bridgewater-Raritan) got Bloomsburg on the board with a 7-3 win over Wesley Maskill. Murphy was leading late in the match, 5-3, and secured the win by getting a late takedown.

At heavyweight, the Huskies Bruce Graeber (Featerville, Pa./Neshaminy), a true freshman, was seeing varsity action for the time in his career, after starter Bo Spiller (Quarryville, Pa./Solanco) came down with an illness. With the score tied 3-3 and 15 seconds to go, Graeber worked an escape to take the lead and then held off a late takedown attempt and posted his first official victory, 4-3.

Bloomsburg then closed out the match with an exciting match at 125 lbs. The Huskies' Willy Girard (Williamstown, Pa/Williams Valley) rallied from a 5-2 deficit to post a win by fall in 3:25 to make the final 31-12.

Bloomsburg goes to 3-4 with the loss and will be idle till Dec. 3 when it hosts George Mason University at 2 p.m. in an Eastern Wrestling League matchup.
